Project Description
The purpose of this project is
to produce a real-time 3D
image of the brachial plexus
using existing ultrasound
technology.
Presently a Sonosite
MicroMaxx SLA ultrasound
probe is used clinically

Previous Work
In 1997 BrainLAB
received clearance

The Tracking Pyramid

Orientation of three
spheres accurately
tracks the 3D
location of the
ultrasound probe
versus time
Construct small
enough to fit on
probe but big
enough for Vision
Assistant

LabVIEW
Installed LabVIEW 2010
with Developer Suite on
personal computers
Source Code Control will
be used to work on
software at the same time
Simulate equations in
LabVIEW before testing
with actual image
recognition

Budget and Expenses

$1,000 provided by University of
Connecticut School of
Engineering
Spent $120 on two cameras
Spent $320 on aluminum
framing
Expected future costs for
tracking pyramid are minimal

Forward Movement
Build tracking device to place on probe (begin
with model)
Complete LabVIEW program to efficiently
calculated probe position
Test program with input values, then incorporate
camera recognition
Include calibration in program to ease future use
Complete LabVIEW program for image
reconstruction, initially with still image then in
real time
