Part 1. Personal Information Name: Romeo Torreon Age: 39 years old Gender: Male Civil Status: Married Educational Background: Highschool No. Of Members in the Family: 3 kids, 1 wife Part II. Interview Questions 1. How long have you been working as a security guard? 15 years na ko ga trabaho diri sa sto nino village as a security guard. Ive worked as a security guard in Sto. Nino Village for around 15 years now. 2. Please relate to us how you became a security guard. A highschool diploma doesnt really get you that far. Ive also always wanted to help people and defend them in some way and being a security guard for the village I guess, satisfies that craving in some way. 3. What is the daily routine in your job? Basically, I monitor the entire village along with other security guards. 4. Do you earn enough for your familys daily needs? If not, how do you manage? Just enough to buy the needs for my family. I dont earn enough to buy extras but we always get by.
5. What kind of people do you usually encounter in your line of
work? How do you deal with them? I normally encounter really kind people because this is a village with families after all but from time to time, I encounter hard headed people. These people I have to deal with differently so that theyll follow the rules of the village. We usually just give them a warning. 6. Aside from difficult employers/customers (if there are), what are the other challenger you encounter in your line of work? How do you deal with these problems? Number one problema gyud para namo kay among pride. Kailangan namo matuman ang balaod nga dili ma disrespetuan ang tao unya kailangan pud nga stricto ang pagtuman namo. Kung ma sakitan gani ang tao among gi patumanan, kuyaw ma wad.an mig trabaho ugma kay gi swelduan ra bya mi. Di mi pwede magpa feeling taas mi sa uban tao kay gi swelduan ra mi diri. Well the number one problem, other than the ones I said a while ago, has to be observance of pride. We security guards must enforce the law in such a way that we show authority and respect at the same time. If we show it in a disrespectful manner, we could lose our job the very next day. We must not see ourselves as above anybody we meet because we ourselves are just getting paid to enforce rules the best way we can. 7. Despite the challenges and difficulties you encounter, do you still find joy in what you do? Yes, always. This job satisfies my dream to defend the innocent while at the same times providing for my family even if it is just a very modest income. 8. Would you encourage any member in your family to do your kind of work? Why or why not? Di ko kay kuyaw ning trabahoa. Gamay pa gyug sweldo. Maypa mu pursue nalang sila ug police officer, lawyer, etc. No because this job is actually quite dangerous and does not pay as much as other jobs that help protect innocent people like Police
Officer, Lawyer, etc.
9. What is your dream job?
I wanted to be a lawyer. If you let me study in college, I will study just to become a lawyer. That is basically the ultimate dream job for me as this really helps defend innocent people and earn much more for my family. 10. Do you believe that there is still a chance for you to realize this dream/ideal job? Naa gyud naay chance. Yes. If there is life, then there is hope. That is my motto. I will never stop aspiring to become a lawyer no matter what age I am. Part III. A. Summary The interview was conducted on the 29th of January, 2016 in Sto. Nino Villages Clubhouse area where the guard was currently monitoring. Romeo Torreon was a bit shy at first but he then opened up midway through the interview. We didnt really expect him to say anything in english but he helped us a bit by knowing how to speak in english a bit. He was an inspirational guy that really gave us something to think about after the interview, particularly the quote he said in the last question, his motto. B. Conclusion The interview made us realize how underappreciated security guards are to a community. They are its defense against the horrors from the outside world. This interview also has given us new thought to life and made us see the beauty in pursuing a passion with utmost patience and perseverance. Although we only found out Romeos dream job in the end, previous things he said made it clear that being a lawyer is what he really wanted to do and until now, in a not so perfect situation, he still strives to become one and will never stop. This is very applicable to anyones life considering everyone has hopes and dreams. Its sad to think that people actually stop even before starting but if there is life, then there is hope. We will never forget those words. C. Recommendations 1. Higher wage for security guards.
2. More benefits (insurance, school discount for their kids, etc.)
