Reflection
Pledge of Loyalty
Pledge of Loyalty is a mandatory oath affirming the loyalty of its taker and an oath for
commitment. Loyalty is a devotion and faithfulness to a nation but there are many different
perceptions and definitions for loyalty, as a criminology students we should bear in mind this
pledge that may bring pride and majesty to our future field. Being devoted to something is also a
way of being loyal, this pledge thought me on how to act being loyal in the institution where I
belong. In the stanza, if you work a man, in heaven’s name, work for him and stand by the
institution he represent. It says that as a junior we should work for our head in order to give
loyalty to our leader and the members of the institution we stand and stand the institution that
they represents is also tells us that we need to follow them.
This pledge deals with your commitment to your institution and a commitment as a
criminology student. Way back school days especially the first week of classes, at first I do
things on my own that I don’t care for others since I don’t really understand it in the very first
place. It really pressures me a lot and mostly of them keep saying this lines, swallow your pride,
follow your seniors and more. There were times that I failed those commands, I disobey rules
and obligations as a junior, there are also hard times that make myself low morale and my mind
always carry on the word quit but then I realize there are no failures, only quitters and think why
I started this. Time goes by, I understand why they are keep doing those things, why they are
continuing to teach us the 3m’s the makibagay, makisama and makiramdam because they are
helping us to build our relationship among others, one wrong move and everyone will suffer. In
fact they tested each one of us how to swallow pride, they instruct us to be responsible, on how
to follow simple commands. Sometimes we do wrong move, hard headed and fail to remember
the golden rule but those errors we’ve made us to be aware on how to be more responsible
enough in committing ourselves for our future profession someday.
For if you do, the first high wind that comes along will blow you away and probably
you’ll never know why. In other words, if we are not conscious with what we are doing tendency
would be, it will not just me who will suffer but the whole department that might others will not
capable on what are the happenings. “Pak one pak all “ it really means to me because it is not
just for myself but also for the welfare of others, it deals that we need to be as one in order to
have a good relationship to each and every one. Helping one other is another way to assist each
of us to be better. According to Jean-Paul Sartre, commitment is an act, not a word, in the
beginning it’s just a word for everyone but as time passes by as we understand the real meaning
of it, it turns that commitment is really important to trust people and to achieve loyalty to the
institution.
Military Professionalism

Military professionalism is the basis for how individuals, groups, and the military itself
acts to perform its job. Seeing a man in uniform is a privilege and honor to our country that they
are serving the country for safety and peace of our community as well. This profession is an
uncomplicated since it deals with blood and sweat for achieving this career. Military
professionalism thought me that I will become like them, I will be a man who adopt the
profession of arms and submit my own free will to my country. Submitting this is an
achievement for my dream to become a public servant someday. From the moment that they
become soldiers, they are out of their civilian mentality. All actions must be done with command
form the leaders, you cannot move without information of the higher rank because if you do your
own step it will blow you away. They reject the normal life just to serve the country and work
until they drop.
As a criminology student I know that there are hard times especially in dwelling those
training in the camp in order them to survive. I’ve experience those hard times they encountered,
when I undergo training for an ROTC Officer an 8 days training in the camp. My two days there
is not easy I want to go home and I want to quit but there’s a quote that motivate me once, rest if
you must, but don’t quit this line affect myself so much and lots of questions that come up into
my mind. Why I’m doing this? I want to serve my country and this is a one step to my dream
profession. Continuing my training there teaches me a lot, those difficulties that our hero
encountered that it take risk for their self, yes its hard they are always keep in mind that they are
doing this for the love for their own country. It teaches me the deep meaning of makibagay,
makisama and makiramdam or better known as 3m’s. Cutting our hairs means we are adopting
the profession we dream of and it shows the 3m’s in this scenario.
Military professionalism stated that many sacrifices would be encountered and we should
conquer our fear and let go our civilian mentality into a military attitude which is part of the
training to become a military personnel we should bear in mind that we do this because this is
what we aspire to be without forcing as to enter this profession we will promise to commit our
job which is to serve people and to maintained peace in the community. As a public servant
someday who will oath to the people to serve our country with pride and dignity to be a good
role model to my fellow Filipinos, I will do my best to acknowledge my sacrifices. According to
a soldier’s poem, tell my nation not to cry because I’m a soldier born to die.
