Activity 1.1 How Do I Define it?

After the readings, define the following terms based on your
personal understanding of the concept.
1. Socialization

In sociology, socialization is the process of internalizing the norms and ideologies of society.
Socialization encompasses both learning and teaching and is thus "the means by which social
and cultural continuity are attained". Socialization is strongly connected to developmental
psychology.

2. Agents of Socialization

Agents of socialization: Agents of socialization, or institutions that can impress social norms
upon an individual, include the family, religion, peer groups, economic systems, legal
systems, penal systems, language, and the media.

3. Social Interaction

In social science, a social relation or social interaction is any relationship between two or more
individuals. Social relations derived from individual agency form the basis of social structure
and the basic object for analysis by social scientists.

4. Self-Realization

Self-realization is an expression used in Western psychology, philosophy, and spirituality; and

in Indian religions. In the Western understanding it is the "fulfillment by oneself of the
possibilities of one's character or personality" (see also self-actualization).

5. Peer Feedback

Peer feedback is a practice where feedback is given by one student to another. Peer
feedback provides students opportunities to learn from each other.

6. Spirit of Volunteerism

The very definition of volunteering is a service-act of one's own freewill….. without

compensation. This lack of compensation, at the heart of it, should include any “warm-fuzzy”
we might be addicted to as amelioration for our “good” actions.

Activity 1.2 Expressing My Gratitude

growth. This is the chance to tell them how grateful you are for what you have become

How Grateful Am I to My Parents

I am grateful for a great many things. From the clothes that are put on my back, to the
food that is put in my belly. But if I take back and think about it, who provides all of this? My
parents. If I could describe my parents in a few words, I would say they are caring,
compassionate, loving, and most of all amazing.
Something about my mom that I really love is how playful and happy she always is. I
remember as a kid that my mom was always there for me whenever I needed her most. Without
my mom I don’t know what I would do without her. She, along with my dad, have helped and
guided me through everything. From homework to how to fold my laundry. My mom is like my
best friend, we have inside jokes and we just get each other and I think that’s a wonderful thing
for a child and parent to have a close bond.
Strong, brave and fighter. That’s how I will describe my father. Whenever some people
are criticizing us or making their way to us, he will definitely go in just like some hero. The one
who will always protect and never lets his family down. He will always do everything to reach his
goal for us. He truly loves us and I will be forever his princess.
Overall, I can’t begin to say how much I love my parents. To me, they are the perfect
people to have as my mom and dad and I’m grateful for them helping me achieve all my goals
and helping me power through all my hardships. Most of all, I’m thankful for having two
wonderful parents to have at my side and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
