The Big Picture

Students will develop a model that simulates a real life situation so that they can determine
answers to a set of questions

Objectives - Section 14
- (a) Create a data model (1, 2, 3 and 4)
- (d) Adjust display features (3)

Engagement
Students will be following a set of instructions to create their own model

Stickability
This is the basic starter, all lesson will build from this allowing stickability
Covers basic features but includes, IF statements, VLOOKUP, SUM and some basic calculations
Differentiation
Students are following an instruction sheet to support weak and strong. Extensions available for
stronger candidates
Lesson Content
Register and settle class
5 minutes
Students given a sheet to allow them to track their progress. This is stuck into their books and they
should tick off sections that they already know as well as highlighting areas of misunderstanding.
2 minutes
Teacher checks with class to ensure that they understand the key terms and to explain any
problems with the wording
3 minutes
Students to download the worksheet for the lesson. Mr Smiths Finances Instructions and Mr Smiths
Finances
40 minutes - Hacking Poster
Students will work through the sheet and try to complete as much of the content as they can.
Teacher to demonstrate key sections students might have problems with.
- Before Starting
o Adding and deleting a row
o Changing the size of rows and columns
- Before End If Necessary
o If statements and VLOOKUP
5 minutes
Questions on the final slide to random people to see what has been learned and to check that they
are able to interpret a model as required by the exam board.
