Project KADAM

Empowering Man, Enabling Mankind

Project KADAM
Kadam is an idea, a conception to serve the needs of a
section of our society, severely marginalized and
perpetually neglected: The differently-abled.

What is Enactus?
Enactus
is
an
international non-profit
organization that unites
student, business and
academic leaders to
improve the quality of life
of the underprivileged
and
marginalized
sections of society.

Project Kadam creates a symbiotic relationship

between two communities. On the one hand it seeks to
mitigate the sufferings of the hearing impaired and on
the other to straighten the footsteps of the millions of
children affected by clubfoot. Started on 1st April 2014
with the vision of inclusive growth, our project is driven
by
dual
objectives:

To provide a sustainable source of income to

hitherto unemployed and disadvantaged hearing
impaired
and
mute
individuals.

To improve the lives of those rendered helpless

by the physical deformity of their feet.

Our project engages 5 hearing and speech-impaired

individuals in the production of the foot abduction
braces (FAB's) which cure clubfoot.

Enactus St. Stephens

Project KADAM
We have identified 5
individuals with the help of
NOIDA DEAF SOCIETY,
who are willing and able to
work but have remained
unhappy, unemployed and
ignored because of their
disability.

Identification of
Community

What is
Clubfoot?
Clubfoot is the most
common congenital
deformity known worldwide.
This disease victimizes one
out of every 750 children
born today!
The ankle of the diseased is
twisted at extremely sharp
angles making the foot
resemble a golf club. This
leads to very limited mobility
and a life of prolonged
disability.
Most instances of Clubfoot
are idiopathic. It is
impossible to prevent.
However, it can certainly be
cured. The Ponseti method
is a minimally invasive and
low-cost procedure to
correct clubfoot. There are
several steps involved like
casting, stretching and
finally bracing the feet.

Training is being conducted by

specialized experts at Cure.
(International Organization
working towards eradication of
clubfoot) Expected to last 8
months.
The individuals are being given
an amount of Rs. 4000 per
month is being given. During
this time they also contribute
towards production of FAB's.

Training for
Manufacturing
We divide the phase into 3
aspects i.e. production,
management and selling and
distribution.
Initially Enactus SSC will
undertake the management
activities. These braces will
be purchased by Cure India.

Independent
Production Centre
Our expansion plan is
twofold: consumer
diversification and increase in
production capacity.
Increase in number of
hearing-impaired individuals;
Reaching out to private
clinics.
