THEORY
The Wilkinson power divider is a lossy three port network having all ports matched, with
isolation between output ports. The Wilkinson power divider can be made with arbitrary power
division. A microstrip line version is shown in Fig. 13.1 and same can be made in CPW line.

Fig 13.1: A Wilkinson power divider in microstrip line having unequal power division
If the power ratio between port 2 and 3 is K2 = P3/P2, then the following design equations apply,

The output lines are matched to the impedances R2 = Z0K and R3 = Z0/K, as opposed to the
impedance Z0. Matching transformers can be used to transform these output impedances.

DESIGN
Step 1: Find out the characteristic impedances Z02 and Z03 of transmission lines.
Given, 2 =

3
2

=3

Therefore,
1 + 2
03 = 0
= 43.869
3
02 = 2 03 = 131.607
Step 2: Calculate the shunt resistor value.
= 0 ( +

) = 115.47

Step 3: Calculate the characteristic impedance of matching transformers.

04 = 0 = 65.8
05 =

Step 4: Calculate the length of the each quarter wave transmission lines using QUCS.
