What is manufacturing?

Manufacturing is the production of goods for

use or sale using labor and machines, tools,
chemical and biological processing, or
formulation. The term may refer to a range of
human activity, from handicraft to high tech, but
is most commonly applied to industrial
production, in which raw materials are
transformed into finished goods on a large scale.

CAM generally refers to the computer software used to

develop the Computer Numerical Part programs for
machining and other processing applications
CAM can be defined as the use of computer systems to
plan, manage, and control the operations of a
manufacturing plant through computer interface with
the plants production resources.

Application of CAM
1. Computer monitoring and control- these are the
direct applications in which the computer is directly
connected to the manufacturing process for the
purpose of monitoring or controlling the process.

2. Manufacturing support applications- these

are the indirect applications in which the
computer is used in support of the production
operations in the plant, no direct interface of
computer to manufacturing process.
