PART A ( 8 x 5 = 40)
Answer ALL Questions

1. How does the Rumpler limousine compare with an average luxury sedan today?
Explain analytically.
2. Discuss the wake formation behind a bluff body with particular reference to vehicle
rear end design. Explain its impact on wind noise, drag and fuel economy.
3. Sketch a double rear-wing typically deployed on F1 cars and explain the aerodynamics
of the major components involved.
4. Present a critical analysis of various drag reduction technologies deployed in trucks.
5. Devise a wind tunnel strategy for measuring the performance, fuel consumption, etc, of
a race car.
6. Starting from a 2-D control volume in Cartesian coordinates, develop the mass
conservation equation.
7. How relevant is the Panel method for modeling vehicle aerodynamics?
8. Briefly distinguish between LES and DNS methods.
