A Conversation with a Student

Student Issue: Candidate 1:1 with a Student (7 min per candidate)
Candidates will engage in a 1:1 conversation with a high school
student. Candidates will be provided a one-page overview of
information regarding the student and the situation that has brought
him/her to the office.

Concurrent Activity
During this activity candidates will complete an in-box activity. Candidates will be
given a scenario of a school crisis that occurred earlier in the day. Candidates will
have a short time to compile a letter that will be sent home with all of the
students at the end of the day. Computers and printers will be supplied.

10:15 am Talking with Teachers about Teaching
Teaching: Candidate 1:1 with a Teacher (7 minutes per candidate)
Candidates will be asked to engage in a conversation with the

evaluation teams teacher. The candidates will discuss a snippet of

teaching they witnessed (the candidates were provided a link to a
short teaching video clip).
Concurrent Activity
Candidate Video Booth: Each candidate will go to the video booth station to
compose a verbal response to a question. (Wachovia)
11:15 am One on One Candidate Interview
Each member of each evaluation team will interview one candidate for
30 minutes. Please begin the interview with the short set of interview
questions provided. Additional questions can be added; however, these
questions should elaborate on information that the candidate provided
during the interview.
Concurrent Activity
GRIT Scale: Each candidate will complete the GRIT scale and return it to the
NELA volunteers (Wachovia).

Dismiss Candidates
Lunch & Feedback Session for Evaluation Teams (Wachovia or
evaluation team rooms)
Use Final Assessment of MSA Candidate Rubric (bright pink sheet)
