8th Grade U.S.

History

Welcome to my 8th Grade U.S. History class. I am looking forward to an exciting year with you.
Overview:
The focus of this class will be from the American Revolution through the Civil War and
Reconstruction Era. We will describe and analyze the major causes, key events, and important
figures of the American Revolution. Understand the factors and events that led to the formation
of the United States of America. We will complete a chronological study of the early national
period, westward expansion, and the Civil War and Reconstruction eras. Our class will include
Citizenship skills that will focus on the development and understanding of constitutional
government in the United States.
Expectations:
You will come to class on time and prepared with needed materials to actively participate each
day.
You will be respectful to others.
You will be positive and willing to try new things. You will give your best effort.

Please sign up for Remind to get messages to keep you up to date on class activities and
important events. I have attached the instructions for Remind. You may get these messages
on your email or through your cell phone messaging service. Parents may also want to sign up
to stay informed.
Supply List:
Every student will need the following items:
1 composition book (any color)
1 folder with pockets
Pencils and pens (both black and red) just a few for personal use daily 1
box of colored pencils
These items will be shared with the class:
1st hour box of Kleenex
3rd hour index cards (white only)
4th hour pencils (no mechanical and any size package)
5th hour antibacterial wipes
6th hour post it notes

Grades:
I will enter your grades into the gradebook at least once a week, please make sure that you
have access to check the portal to check your grade at any time. I will discuss any grade
related questions you may have before or after school. All grades will be on a point basis, not
percentage.

B = 8089
C = 7079
D = 6069
F = 59 and below
Late Work and Absent Policy:
Late assignments will ONLY be accepted ONE day after the due date. These assignments will
be given a maximum grade of 50 points. After the first day, all late assignments will be given a
zero. I will follow the district policy on absences. It is YOUR responsibility to get your missing
assignments and to turn them in on time. You will get one calendar day for every day that you
are absent to turn in work. If you are out for a school sponsored event, you must get your work
in advance and turn it in the following day. If you are having any issues with the deadline,
please talk to me asap. I am happy to try to work with you on late assignments.
Please sign and return the bottom section of this paper. Keep the remainder for reference
throughout the year. I am looking forward to a great year!
