Unit Paper 4
The choice base of play can be presented when children can freely create artwork based
on their own decisions while having fun without adult restrictions, (Freyermuth 2012). As an
illustration, mixing colors is one way children can explore making a variety of colors. However,
when an instructor advises their student which, result in students to lose their self-exploration
and the ability to discover on their own accord. With this in mind, teachers abide to the school
curriculums which, has overtaken the meaningful art making of art students because the school
board is committed to follow the school standards. However, because of this decision we have
limited our students to meaningful artmaking. For instance, children who get to explore in art
tend to find art more enjoyable. Students are able to explore and discover what interest them
because their decisions are based on their feeling and individual needs (Szekely 2011).
Choice base of play can open the doors to exploration of different forms of art. First of
all, I would have my students have the opportunity to play with different pieces of art to see what
they can create. The supplies I would ask them to bring in would be something they find in their
own home or outside in the environment. In addition, I would also supply the students with art
supplies such as paint, crayons, and makers etc. Then I would have the children create art by
having fun with different art supplies and colors. The concept of adventure and discovery can
open the possibilities to view art in a fun perspective.
