Some students may not have any background knowledge so to this will introduce them to William Shakespeare, a name they will hear about for the rest of their experience in ELA. Helps students work on their listening skills by receiving the information through a listening activity (video). Can clarify misconceptions that the students may have about the author William Shakespeare. Will also give information on the type of play Othello is. CO: SWBAT Individually record the information that is highlighted in the Brain Pop video by filling out the guided notes handout provided. When pre-teaching new vocabulary I will rewrite each word on
the board and create a web around the word as a way of organizing everything the students know about the words they will need to write in the lesson. Students may not know anything about William Shakespeare and therefore their K for the KWL chart will be lacking or empty. Some students may not understand how to complete guided notes even with word bank Grouping of students in mixed groups after video as extra support to both groups. Higher level students may end up needing the key in order to write the words with correct spelling.
