Government of Angola
Background:
It was not until November
11 1975 that Angola became
independent from Portugal. Up
until then, they had been
strictly under their govern.
Since then, Angola has strived
to build their own republic
nation composed of multiple
parties and opinions. Angola is
composed of 18 provinces,
home to more than over 21
million people.
In 1992, the Peoples
Assembly adopted their first
Constitution based off of
Portuguese customary and civic
law. Recently, in 2010 the
Constitution was updated and
that is now the most current
edition.

The President:
Angola is currently under
the power of their President
since 1992, Jos Eduardo dos
Santos. Although law states that
a president does not serve
anymore than two five year
terms, he has remained in office
corruptly.
In Angola, the president is
the head of the Executive
Branch and is the Chief of State
as well. Before 2010 the
president was supposed to be

Legislative Branch:
The Legislative Branch is
composed of what the nation knows
as the Peoples Assembly, or
Assembleia Nacional. This is
composed of 220 citizens from
various parties, who were voted into
office.
A term for a seat in the
Peoples Assembly is for years.

Executive Branch:
The Executive Branch is
composed of the Prime Minister,
President, and Chief of State. As
already mentioned, President Jos
Eduardo dos Santos has appointed
him self dictating president and
Chief of State.
The other role left in the
Executive Branch is of the prime
minister. President dos Santos is
responsible for personal appointed
the Prime Minister, in which he
chose a close relative, Fernando de
Piedade Dias dos Santos.

Judicial Branch:
The Judicial Branch of Angola
is composed of the Supreme Court
and a judge for each of the 18
Provinces. The Supreme Court id
