Gear Driven Lower Lifters

Model 60L Gear Driven

Lower Lifters
Field Installation
Procedures
Replacement of standard Lower Lifter
Assemblies with the Gear Driven
Lower Lifter option will result in
disassembly of the Seamer down to
the Base level.
Before this process begins, it is highly
suggested to perform a complete
audit of the Seamer to determine if
other components are in need of
replacement.
Having these parts on hand at the time
of assembly will ensure against
delays in projected completion.

FOLLOW THE NEXT STEPS IF YOUR
ASSEMBLY WAS PURCHASED WITHOUT A
NEW UPPER TURRET.
If not, proceed to step 4.
THIS IS A PROCEDURE TO LOCATE AND
REPIN THE UPPER TURRET HUB AFTER
BORE ALIGNMENT HAS BEEN MADE.
2A. Upper Turret & Lower Turret
Bore Alignment.
Note: Turret must be clean, torqued
together at 60 ft. lbs. and ready for
Spindle Drive Gear and Seaming
Spindle installation.

NOTE:Check Seaming Lever Shaft bore

bushings for excessive wear at this time
to ensure they are still within tolerance.
Check bushings using a new Lever Shaft
and dial indicator.
Tolerance range is minimum .002" and
maximum .0035" side play.
It is suggested to replace bushings if they
are all consistently out of the maximum
allowable tolerance.
9. Ensure that all metal chips have been
cleaned out of the Turret from the drilling
process.
Start the assembly process at step #3.

1. Remove the Upper Turret Hub from the

Lower Turret Hollow Shaft shipped with
the assembly.
2. Install the new Upper Turret Hub onto the
existing Upper Turret removed from the
machine. Leave out the 1/2" location
dowels, O-Ring and Oil Seal.
3. Lower the Upper Turret assembly onto
the Hollow Shaft aligning the Hub Key
with the Shaft keyway.
4. Leave 10 inches between Turrets before
tightening the Hub clamp bolt. Leave the
overhead lift attached with a little slack in
the line.
5. Use a dial indicator extended down from
the Seaming Spindle to properly locate
Upper Turret bores radially on the Hub.
6. Shift the Upper Turret radially to get a
Total Indicator Reading (TIR) less than
.010 of an inch around the entire bore. It
is important to hold this dimension as
close as possible prior to pinning.
7. Tighten Upper Turret Hub Screws when
dial readings have been met, loosen Hub
clamp screw, and lift off the Upper Turret.
8. Use a 31/64 Drill and .499 Reamer to pin
the Hub to the Turret. Use (2) 1/2" dia. X
1-1/2" long stainless steel dowel pins.
