Area of Concern
There are children in
the community who
do not have enough
food to eat. In an
attempt to join the
community with the
school, 4th grade
students paired with
Pre-Kindergarten
students to collect
and deliver food to
under privileged
students from
another campus.

Needs Assessment
A needs assessment
was done to figure
out a way to get
stakeholders
involved in raising
awareness for less
fortunate kids.

Name of Project: Tikkun Olam (11/18/2015)

Projects Action
Plan
September 2015Met with PreKindergarten
teachers to
determine what
activities we would
be doing with our
chosen school,
Gabriela Mistral Early
Childhood Center.
Pre-Kindergarten
students would have
a food drive while the
fourth grade
students would shop
for food as apart of
the merchandising
curriculum.

Competencies
Addressed
September 2015C008- Use effective
planning, time
management and
organization of
personnel to
maximize
attainment of district
and campus goals.

Evaluation

Reflection

Final EvaluationNinety percent of the

fourth grade and PreKindergarten kids
took part in the final
product of sacking
and delivering the
non-perishable items.

I was very pleased

with every part of
this project. In
collaborating with the
Pre-Kindergarten
classes we were able
to involve more
students in donating
food.

We provided over
seventy grocery sacks
of food for the
children of The
Gabriela Mistral Early
Childhood Center.
We had a successful
partnership with the
adults at the
Celebration Company,
allowing them to
interact with children

Working with the

Celebration Company
allowed adults with
mental challenges
the opportunity to
interact with younger
children and feel a
huge sense of self
worth. Witnessing
these members work
hand in hand made
me feel emotional.

Judaic Studies to see
if we could involve
The Celebration

home for adults with
disabilities.

Early November
2015- Took a
shopping trip to local
stores to purchase
non-perishable items
for donation to the
Gabriela Mistral Early
Childhood Center.
Paired with the adults
from the Celebration
Company to sort the
food into different
food groups.
Mid November
2015- Held a
collaborative dinner
with our PreKindergarten buddies
to sack up the food
items we purchased.
Loaded the items to
be delivered to our
new friends.

Early November
2015-

C001- Ensure that

parents and other
members of the
community are an
integral part of the
campus culture.

C002- Establish
partnerships with
parents/caregivers,

of the same faith in a

way of positively
serving the
community.

These adults may

face certain walls in
their lives, but their
motivation to serve
the community is
endless.
Being able to give
nutritious food to
families just in time
for Thanksgiving left
me feeling complete.
It is easy to forget
how fortunate we are
sometimes.
Teaching this lesson
to the next
generation embodies
the meaning of
Tikkun Olam. If there
is something broken,
it is our job to fix it.
There are kids who
go to bed hungry
each night, and it is
our job to see to it
they do not.
