Chapters: 7, 8 and 9 In the first of these three chapters, Francisco writes about how he used to play, with some of his friends from around the camp, a game named kick the can. He also met a bracero named Gabriel, who was treated meanly by the contratista. He used to ask the older boy with whom he played, to let a younger friend of his play, but the older boy would not let him because he was to slow. He later saw how Gabriel was mistreated by the contratista, but resisted and was later fired and returned to Mexico. He then realized he had to stand his ground against the older boy and do not let him intimidate them. In the next chapter, Francisco writes about learning to let go of things. First, he lets go of his friend Carl, who gave him an old penny for his collection. Then, he lets go of his penny collection, when they are used by his sister to buy gum. Finally, he lets go of his note pad, which contained every word, phrase, and meaning he had been practicing. After this, he learns that he does not really has to be attached to everything. Then, in the next chapter, the fear of being caught by the border patrol starts haunting Francisco and his family after they do not get caught in a raid. After that, they move to Santa Mara, where Francisco goes to the 8 th grade, and Roberto gets a job as a janitor because his father could not work as well as before. Finally, when they figure out they want to stay in Santa Mara, an immigration officer comes to Franciscos classroom looking for him. After picking up Francisco, he mentions that they are on their way to pick up Roberto, too. My comment or question about this story is: I think its really sad that, just when they had everything figured out, they get caught by the immigration officer. My group agreed that my summary was complete and accurate: ____yes_____
