a Multnomah County Permit Truck .

Any structures such as walls and bridge elements will

be designed for possible additional future loads such as 2 inches of future asphalt concrete
wearing surface. Seismic loads are based on the ramp being an “essential” bridge and based
on peak ground acceleration coefficients of 0.16 during a 500-year (service-level) event and
0.25 during a 1000-year (life-safety) event. The Site Class has been determined to be Site
Class II. A Site Classification of S=1.2 will be used for the seismic analysis on the proposed
structure.

The contract documents will be prepared in accordance with the requirements of PDOT
and ODOT’s Bridge Design and Drafting Manual, the 2002 Oregon Standard Specifications
for Construction and the 2006 Supplemental Oregon Standard Specifications for Construc-
tion.

Typical Sections and Roadway Alignment

The typical section for the proposed ramp consists of a two-lane, one-way roadway vary-
ing in width. The total traveled way is primarily 24 foot wide with two, 12 foot wide lanes.
There will be a 12-foot sidewalk on the west side, a sidewalk on the east varying from 12
feet to 17 feet and a 5-foot bike lane on the west side. The transition onto the Burnside
Bridge flares from around 60 feet to 110 feet to incorporate the required turning radius, a
turn lane and a median island. The proposed horizontal alignment is shown on Ramp Plan
below in Figure 7.

Drainage
The Burnside Bridge has an existing drainage system that will need to be adjusted to accom-
modate the proposed modifications. There are two water quality catch basins on the bridge
approximately in line with 3rd Avenue. The inlet on the north side and all of its associated
plumbing will have to be relocated. At this time, it is assumed to be moved westward to
the end of the ramp flare. It is assumed that the new ramp structure will tie into a storm
system on NE Couch Street near 3rd Avenue by using the curb and gutter to carry the new
