In Class Writing #1: Freewriting on Mahler

While I received many hints of deaths, nuclear warfare was one I hadnt thought
of in a bit. Had we read the article first, my writing would have consisted of upbeat
tones representing the calm innocence of people who dont realize theyre a few
minutes away from death. A few minutes away from the cessation of everything familiar.
A few minutes from becoming scorch marks on the aging bricks of walls, or dust filling
the growing cracks in the concrete. There would have most certainly been a mention of
government officials hidden beneath thousands of layers underground and leaving
whomever remained to fight amongst themselves for themselves. Silence would blanket
cities and deafen those who sit, mouths open, wondering what just happened.
Those who were fortunate enough to survive, are faced with the reality that those
who couldve helped them are in the same boat as them. With dripping flesh anchoring
them to the chairs they were enjoying, the now evaporated ice tea dust in the glass. The
last dying breaths filled with confusion, agony, and wondering what theyve done to
deserve this?
