Reflection on How Much More Doublespeak Can We Take

Words are extremely dangerous, especially in the hands of people who are gifted
at manipulating them to fit their needs without being found out. Words have led to
battles, deaths, and a multitude of misunderstandings. This passionate shade wearing
man mentions the assortment of times a company or politician claimed to advocate one
thing, while acting in complete opposite to their surface statements. Also, he mentions
how Britains economy is on a decline, but there is still enough money to give the state
minister a million-pound bonus. The people are being misled to follow one path of
thought, while those in power, who control the fate of these people, rush off in chase of,
mostly personal, satisfaction. That leaves the public not only falsely informed, but
almost completely in the dark about the actual workings within their society.
Many a time when ever a major decision was passed, what the government
actually did while the people were distracted. For example, when gay marriage was
made legal, they also gave Monsanto the ability to put their unlabeled genetically
modified foods on the shelf in the same breath. While almost no one heard or paid
attention to the latter part of the aforementioned statement, everyone was repeatedly
rejoicing about the former. This keep the people healthy, but give them untested

modified foods mantra is a deadly one, especially considering that we have no certain
idea of what the effects of said food will be ten years from now. It is reminiscent of the
conditioning scene of the children in 1984 where they were exposed to positive stimuli,
like flowers, but made to feel intense pain afterwards. All throughout their lives, these
children just have a natural aversion to anything that would grant them entry into
another caste system. The government is essentially doing the exact same, by trying to
portray a friendly image, while doing things that eventually lead to a decreased quality
of life in some way, shape, or form. Essentially, what I got from this, is to constantly
question your sources and keep a watchful eye towards everything. Also too always
repeat people just so that they get an idea of how ridiculous they are being.
