This project is designed to develop your performance skills as both a solo and group performer.
You will need to develop a wide repertoire and contribute to the arrangement of a number of
musical pieces. This project can draw on your experiences rehearsing for performances as part
of the function band.
You are part of a function band working towards a series of performances. Many performers are
members of more than one ensemble, with acceptance by audition. You must not only be an
integral part of the function band, with creative input, but also equipped with solo pieces ready to
audition should opportunities arise. The repertoire should be recorded.

TASKS
Audition Pieces And Solo Skills
You must develop an audition piece that must exhibit considered and controlled
instrumental or vocal technique, and display musical accuracy in this performance.
Within a group show considered and controlled musical skills in improvisation. Both
of these pieces must be evidenced either by video or audio recording.
Function Band Rehearsals
Being part of the function band requires you to rehearse and perform taking into
consideration the other musicians. Within these rehearsals you must display
positive communication skills in group performance and exhibit confidence of
control over performance in a group environment. You must demonstrate critical
listening skills, by analysing your own and the groups performance.
Setlist - Varied Repertoire
A successful function band must have a wide and varied repertoire. You must
create a series of group and solo recordings that show a considered and controlled
approach to performing a variety of pieces, and produce stylistic conventions
appropriate to chosen repertoire. The recordings must create an appropriate
repertoire for group and solo performance.
Rehearsal Techniques And Song Development
Throughout rehearsals you must demonstrate the creative process of directing other
musicians in an accomplished group performance and produce ideas to contribute to
an accomplished group performance. In a written evaluation you must describe how
you managed to create suitable rehearsal material for cover arrangements and
creative arrangements.
