PURPOSE OF THIS ASSIGNMENT BRIEF


The aim of this unit is to enable learners to develop their techniques for both solo and group performance, from practice through
to performance.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On completion of this unit you should:
● Know effective instrumental or vocal technique through a structured practice routine.
● Be able to apply effective instrumental or vocal technique in solo performance.
● Be able to apply effective instrumental or vocal technique in group performance.
SCENARIO
You have been asked to plan and produce post covid live music event. You will work individually and as a member of a team
towards a successful end product undertaking appropriate responsibilities as a musician throughout the project. This will be the
first event in some time at the venue and appropriate health and safety measures should be planned and implemented for both
the performance and rehearsals.. You will have a limited audience and the event should be streamed live.

Assignment 1: Practice, Practice, Practice


● Explain areas of your performing that you wish to improve.
● Choose specific pieces of music or groups of pieces to perform as both a 08 weeks P1, M1, D1
soloist and in an ensemble that would demonstrate these improvements.
● Consider the requirements, resources and manpower you will need to
perform them and understand the complete process in preparing for and
delivering a live music performance.
● You will plan practise sessions, setting yourself targets for practice and
explaining effective strategies for technical improvement through a
structured practice routine.
EVIDENCE:
● A plan of the instrument/voice specific improvements you wish to make in
the unit agreed with the assessor.
● Evidence of research, logs of preparatory listening of pieces that would
help improve these techniques.
● Copies of sheet music/chord charts/ chosen.
● Practise log/blog/vlog with recorded evidence of your improvement on at
least six points during the unit including an opening explanation of these
areas for improvement.
Assignment 2: Performing Solo
● Be able to prepare individually for the delivery of a successful live music
event, undertaking appropriate responsibilities throughout the project. 02 weeks P2, M2, D2
● Be able to perform as a soloist, with technical skill, confidence, musicality
and a sense of interpretive style.
EVIDENCE: You will produce a solo performance with voice or on an instrument
of your choice that will be video recorded.
Assignment 3: Performing as a member of a Group
● Prepare and work as a member of a team towards a successful live
event. 02 weeks P3, M3, D3
● Prepare individually for the delivery of a successful live music event,
undertaking appropriate responsibilities throughout the project.
● Prepare to perform an individual part as a member of a group, showing
technical skill, confidence, a sense of ensemble and interpretive style.
