Post Associate Musical Director

Line manager Course Leader, BA Acting (Musical Theatre)

ROLE SUMMARY

This role will provide a newly graduated musical director the essential next step into
professional practice. We will offer a specialist experience within a training environment. Our
staff will act as the Associate’s professional colleagues and will mentor the Associate during
the period of engagement.

The Associate Musical Director will be able to enhance our Undergraduate BA Acting Musical
Theatre course through peer-to-peer support of Undergraduate BA Acting Musical Theatre
students and by demonstrating initiative and enthusiasm in developing projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The range of responsibilities and duties of this role will include the following, although priorities
may change in line with the development of the role and other duties may be allocated from
time to time.

Teaching and  Work collaboratively with established and experienced Musical


Learning Directors on the BA Acting Musical Theatre coursework.
 Work collaboratively with Central’s BA Acting Musical Theatre
Sung Voice Tutors on repertoire and audition preparation.
 Work collaboratively with visiting choreographers, directors and
industry creatives.
 Teach Year 1 (Level 4) Music Practice Unit (Ear training and
Ensemble Singing).
 Work collaboratively with the BA Acting Musical Theatre teaching
team on course delivery of Music Theatre Practices Units
(including repertoire & audition preparation, ensemble work and
aural training) and Professional Development.
 Compose and arrange music for in-house projects and
productions.
 Bring projects to external audiences via tours, as appropriate,
(past examples include tours to Moscow, Derby, East Midlands
Project and local and regional schools).
 Act as Assistant Musical Director for the spring term public
production in the Embassy Theatre.
 Enhance the BA Acting Musical Theatre courses through peer-
to-peer support of Undergraduate BA Acting Musical Theatre
students and by demonstrating initiative and enthusiasm in
developing projects.
Liaison and  Receive introductions and networking opportunities with

Remaining responsibilities and duties will be directed by the line manager


when necessary.

These guidelines are provided to assist you in the performance of the contract. Central is
a dynamic organisation; therefore changes may be required from time to time. Any
changes will be made in consultation with the post-holder. The duties and responsibilities

tasks are likely to be performed as directed by the line manager.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Job family Academic

Grade 5
£34,036 - £37,676 per annum, including London weighting.
Salary
Employees are appointed to the first increment of the advertised pay

Contract type Part time (0.5FTE), fixed term until 31 July 2021

required to work such hours as are reasonably necessary in order to

academic staff.

Employee contributions for this role are 7.4% and Central


currently contributes 23.68% of the salary.
Death in service All staff benefit from Central’s Death in Service scheme.
Central pay the whole costs of the scheme which is insured
with a leading insurance company.

The scheme provides a capital sum, payable in the event of


your death before your Normal Retirement Date of two times
Basic Salary at the date of your death, payable to your
beneficiaries, or to your estate.
Staff development Central has an appraisal scheme in place that aims to provide
a focussed, evaluative review of employee performance
against agreed objectives. The objectives are drawn from the
Corporate Plan and other related documents for the year
ahead. In addition to in-year staff development applications,
the appraisal process is also used as an opportunity for
individuals to discuss training and development needs with
their line manager.
