As a Professional School Counselor, I promise to

Listen to all sides of every story, and to always be attentive and nonjudgmental when listening.
Advocate for, Lead, and be an Agent of Change in the profession of school counseling by developing a Comprehensive
Developmental Guidance Program that meets the need for diversity and supports the district and school missions, visions,
and goals.
Be a continuous Learner for the profession by going to workshops, being a member of organizations, and by simply remaining
updated and Resourceful for others.
Be Organized, Humorous, Flexible, Confident, and Trustworthy in order to build rapport and a positive student-counselor
relationship.
Collaborate with students, parents, teachers, administrators, community resources, and other stakeholders.
Effectively Communicate by reflecting, clarifying, summarizing, empathizing, gently confronting, and asking open-ended
questions in order to reach goals and remain professional.
Remain knowledgeable of various cultural and ethnic backgrounds, races, sexual orientations, religions, beliefs, languages,
values, and social classes of others to develop and maintain Multicultural Competence.
Provide services and opportunities that will promote the maximum Academic, Social/Emotional, and Career development of
students.
Care for Myself to prevent becoming burnt out and to become an effective professional school counselor for students and
others who depend on me.
