CONTRUCTION OF A DC MACHINE :

YOKE :

This part acts a

protective cover for the
dc motor.

2. FIELD MAGNET AND POLES :

Adjacent poles have
different polarities.

They perform the

function of producing
magnetic field.

POLE CORE AND POLE CORE SHOES :

Here, we can see the

direction of rotation.

4. ARMATURE:

ARMATURE CORE :

It is made up of high permeability

silicon content steel laminations

ii . SLOTS :

They carry armature

windings.

:iii . ARMATURE WINDING

It is generally made up
of copper wires and it
is wound over the
armature core.

iv . COMMUTATOR :

It is cylindrical in shape and it is

made up of copper. It performs two
basic functions.

v . BRUSHES :

They are usually made up of carbon or

graphite and their purpose is to collect
current from moving commutator

:vi . SHAFT

It is the rotating part of the dc

motor and we obtain the final
mechanical output from the
shaft.
