1 - Minimum configuration
30 Mo hard disk.
Graphic card 65536 colours.
Advised configuration : processor 1.5 GHz. Faster, XP pro, 256 Mo RAM.

2 - Unavailable capabilities of the DEMO version

With the DEMO version, the user is not able to :
save the Trawl Gear documents (.trg files),
save the Simulation documents (.sim files), but the .msh files are saved so as to let the user run a
simulation with different trawl gear parameters,
produce a picture sequence in the Simulation mode,
export a picture in the Simulation mode.
All other capabilities are available.
Moreover the DynamiT DEMO version de allows the user to run a simulation with the only samples provided
on the CD :
Bottom trawl 36-47 with 2 different numerical meshes.
Midwater trawl 76-70
Midwater trawl with hexagonal asymmetrical meshes.
Twin trawls (with 36-47 bottom trawls)
The DEMO version displays DEMO VERSION in the Menu / Help Dialog box.
The dongle is useless to run the DEMO version.
No assistance is provided for the users of the DEMO version. However users can send any remark by email to
dynamit@ifremer.fr.
Please type the word DEMO in the subject of your email.

3 - Setting up DynamiT DEMO

Content of the CD DEMO or the downloaded file :

The set up file (Setup.exe) and associated files.

A copy of this text : ReadMe.pdf
Help directory. This directory contents program files to set up the DynamiT Help viewer, if not yet set up on
your computer (only for old systems : Windows 95 and window 98).

Once the CD in the CD reader, the install program starts. If not, you can also run Setup.exe.
Alternatively, if you have downloaded the DEMO, first unzip the file and launch Setup.exe.
Running DynamiT DEMO
Once DynamiT is set up, you can run the software using : Start / Programs / DynamiT.

First verify the Help viewer runs properly. Start DynamiT and hit the F1 key to call the DynamiT Help. You
should see a window like the one below :

If nothing happens, you have to run the program hhupd.exe which is in the Help directory of the DC DEMO.
Moreover, if Internet Explorer 4 is not installed in your computer, you also have to run the program dcom95.exe.
Restart your computer.

The default directory where DynamiT is set up is C:\ Program Files \ Ifremer \ DynamiT. However, you can
change this location during the set up process.

4 Tutorial for the DEMO version

Some exercises are presented hereafter in order to let the user discover the main functionalities of DynamiT.
These tutorials are independent of the tutorials on the CD which are designed to train new users. In the following
sequences, we assume DynamiT is set up in the directory C:\ Program Files \ Ifremer \ DynamiT.
Tutorial 0 : select the langage to use

Run DynamiT.
In the menu File \ Preferences select the tab Langage
Select the langage you want to use (Italian is not available)
Read the message displayed : close DynamiT avec launch it again.

Tutorial 1 : open a Trawl Gear sample file

Run DynamiT.
Close the default Trawl Gear Document using File / Close.
Using the menu File / Open, select the file :
C:\ Program Files \ Ifremer \ DynamiT \ My Trawl Gears\ Bottom Trawl \ normal36-47 \ bottom36-47.trg
Using the arrows and the f,z,u keys, change the view of the trawl gears.
Look at the different netting panels used for this trawl : right clic in an empty area and select the Netting
Panels command of the context menu.
You can modify the parameters of each netting panel : clic on the netting panel you want to modify.
Close the Netting Panels dialog box.
You can look at the characteristics of each netting section : double clic on a netting section.

Tutorial 2 : open a Simulation sample file

Run DynamiT.
Using the menu File / Open, select the file :
C:\ Program Files \ Ifremer \ DynamiT \ My Trawl Gears\ Bottom Trawl \ normal36-47 \ bottom36-47.sim
You have to change the Type field in the File Open dialog box.
Select the last file (clic on the 018 label) in the left vertical list box.
You can see the bottom trawl on the sea floor.
Turn around the trawl gear using the mouse : push down the left button and move the cursor in the display
area.
Using the z,u keys, zoom in/out
Select the Select tool (the first button in the vertical toolbar).
Using the context menu of the display area (right clic), select the command Information / Current result.
Clic on a bar of the trawl gear. Look the characteristic of this bar in the lower window.
Using the mouse, select an other file in the vertical list box. Look at the main characteristics the the trawl
gear.
Tutorial 3 : run a simulation
Run DynamiT.
Using the menu File / Open, select the file :
C:\ Program Files \ Ifremer \ DynamiT \ My Trawl Gears\ Bottom Trawl \ obvious36-47 \ bottom36-47.sim
You have to change the Type field in the File Open dialog box.
Push the Start button in the Simulation toolbar (the button with a black triangle).
Change the Navigation / Trawler speed. Choose 0 knot for instance.
Change the Calculation / Result output Period . Choose 5 seconds for instance.
Clic OK. The simulation starts and new files are displayed in the vertical list box.

You can change other parameters using the context menu / Change / Parameters.
Stop the simulation (the last button in the Simulation toolbar).

Tutorial 4 : compare different numerical mesh size

Run DynamiT.
Using the menu File / Open, select the file :

Select the last file in the left vertical list box.

Use the Menu Window / Tile command.

Depending on your screen, you will have to resize the lower display area (with the mouse) of each
document.
Compare the main characteristics for the different numerical meshes. Notice the calculation time is from 1
(obvious) to 50 (thin) and main results (openings, towing tensions ) are very close.
