Teaching Objectives:
The student will be able to review various music signs and symbols.
The student will be able to assemble the flute.
The student will be able to demonstrate proper posture and instrument position.
The student will be able to recognize, play, and write the notes D, E-flat, and F.
Materials:
CD Player
Computer
Smart Board
Teaching Procedure:
Introduction: Introduce the lesson by asking the students to share what they have learned in
music class in elementary school or 6th grade.
Pass out a theory review sheet and instruct the students to fill out the sheet and explain to
them that it is not for a grade.
Pass out the Do It! Play Flute Student Book. Instruct the students to turn to page 3 in the
book.
Pass out staff paper and instruct the students to turn to page 6 in their books.
Instruct the students to draw their first note 4 times on their staff paper. Then the same
with their second note.
Pass out flutes. Then instruct the students to take the flutes out carefully. Take the flute
out piece by piece.
Have the students learn the fingerings and then practice playing D, E-flat, and F
Explain what a repeat sign is. Have the students perform exercise 1-4 on page 6. Have
them speak the words first before they play.

Conclusion: For homework assign the students to practice exercise 1 and 4 on page 7 with the
accompaniment
Assessment: The teacher will monitor the students as they develop posture. Are the students
retaining the fingerings for the various notes? Are the students assembling the flute correctly?
