Assessment Criteria: Students should be able
to list the planets in order after completing
the coloring sheet.

Academic Standards:
5.2.1 Recognize that our earth is part of the solar system in which the sun, an average star,
is the central and largest body. Observe that our solar system includes the sun, moon, seven
other planets and their moons, and many other smaller objects like asteroids and comets

Background Knowledge/Prerequisite Skills:
The students need to know the names of the
planets and the order they are in the solar
system
Materials: Coloring sheet, crayons or colored
pencils, worksheet for after lesson.

Aid available to help read worksheet to students and work one on one if needed.
Anticipatory Set:
Ask the students about the sun and the planets placement related to the sun.
Procedures:
After lesson about the planets, have the students complete the coloring sheet, then go over
the order they were in, collect sheet, and have students complete worksheet putting the
planets in order from memory.

Closure : Give the students 10 minutes to complete the worksheet/quiz and then go over the
correct order.
