Short-circuit Test :

Short circuit test is performed to determine copper losses in transformer. Here as the
output is shorted, there is no output. As input voltage is very negligible as compared to
rated voltage and hence the core losses present are only of the transformer. So the
wattmeter measures the copper losses of the transformer.

a) Schematics of short-circuit test connections

b) By performing the short-circuit test, the measured values are as follows:

Input Voltage (Vsc) = 88.8V

Input Current ( Isc) = 0.029A

Input Power (Psc) = 2.42 VA

Calculations :
a) Winding resistance (Req) =

( )
( ( ))2
2.42
(0.029)2

= 2877.52
b) Total Impedance (Zeq) =

(Vsc)
( )
88.8
0.029

= 3062.82
c) Leakage Inductance (Xeq) =[( )2 ( )2 ]
= 1100745.002 = 1046.16
