Description of Activities and

Setting
We will begin this lesson by
completing a KWL Chart on the
board. Students will fill in the
K and W portions for now.
Given the three branches of
government, students will be able
to describe the purpose of each,
without getting any wrong.
We will have a class discussion
as each branch will be written on
the white board. I will tell the
students what each name is and
tell them that by the end of this
lesson they will understand the
purpose of each.
In our classroom with the
students seated, I will begin a
Power Point presentation. The
slides will go into detail about the
functions of the three branches of

IV. Guided Practice

(Elicit performance,

V. Independent

transfer)

VI. Closure (Plan for

maintenance)

Students will be placed in six

groups of three. Each group will
be assigned a branch of
government. Each group is to
write up their own 2 minute skit
to be performed in front of the
class according to which branch
they are from. The class will
guess which group is which
branch.
The students will work
independently to create a poster
that will be used to decorate our
classroom. Students are
instructed to use crayons,
markers, and colored pencils to
decorate.
The students will now write
down on a piece of paper what
they learned and write their name
on the back of it. They can place
this in the basket in front of the
room when they are done. This
will complete the L portion of
our KWL chart.
