Nov. 25, 2015- A group of Mohawk College students are preparing a night of comedy and live music at the Staircase Theatre to raise funds for Wellwood, a non-profit organization in Hamilton. The event will be held on Dec. 7, 2015 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will include acts from Hamiltons Mayce Galoni, Matt Surina and Eric Johnston. The event came to be when the students in the Mohawk Public Relations Postgraduate Program were assigned a fundraiser as a school project. The team of students wanted to put on an event that would bring joy and laughter to the audience while raising money and awareness for Wellwood. Wellwood, and its founder Jane George, resonated with me and a lot of my peers so we really wanted to put on an event that would be fun and beneficial for Wellwood, explains Toni Shelton, a group member. Janes story is incredible and helping her help others means a great deal to us. Wellwood is a community-based, non-profit organization that provides information, programs and peer support to people who have received a diagnosis of cancer, their loved ones and caregivers as well as healthcare providers. All programs are free, safe and accessible as
Wellwood is barrier-free and has recently been recognized for this
through the Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusions award for Diversity Champion.
