GME 15 Exam 3

Spring 2012
1. What was the process called that allows you to compute the northing and easting coordinates
for values for point B?
2. State the complete column headings for a complete traverse computation as outlined in the
class notes in the space provided.
3. The interior angles of a 5 sided closed polygon traverse have been carefully measured using a
precise theodolite. The total of these measurement angles was 5395918. What is the angular
misclosure and by how much should each angle be corrected to make the angular portion of the
traverse closed perfectly?
4. A horizontal traverse has been observed. Use the following data from that traverse to answer
each of the next three problems.
Total length of all the lines in the traverse is 24580.63. The misclosure in northing is +0.87 and
the misclosure in easting was +0.23. Line BC had an original measured length of 217.23 along
an azimuth of 1245418. (Azimuth of course is a cc angle from north).
Find linear error of closure of traverse
5. Whats the precision of this traverse rounded to the most correct 2 significant digits? (round
denominator down)
6. Whats the adjusted latitude of line BC? (in other words, how far east/west is it going) (whats its
east/west component)
7. A closed polygon traverse around a very small urban park has the following adjusted latitudes
and departures in feet. Determine the area of this polygon to the nearest 1/10,000 of an acre.
Compute by DMD/DPD/coordinates.
Use this data for the next two problems.
A certain equal tangent horizontal circular curve has a radius of R of 300 and a central angle of I of
15. The PI station is 20+00.00.
8. What is the degree of curvature arc definition of this curve?
9. What is the deflection per foot (F) for this curve?
10.
Plot contours at 5 foot intervals for the following topographic grid where elevations are in
feet.
