Time Needed: one class period for presentation, could do one propagation
method one day and some the other day if time runs out.
Introduction Ask students to answer the questions on the board and then
take 5 minutes to discuss their answers.
Opening Questions: Why are some crops started from seed while other
crops are started asexually? How do commercially prepared rooting
hormones improve propagation?

Experience explain the step by step process of what the facilitator would
do.Follow the experiential learning cycle. Explain:

Before the Activity


o Begin the lesson with a presentation (PPT, Prezi, etc.)
introducing the I.D. plants and their propagation methods Going
through the presentation with the students.
o Following the presentations, ask students:
What type of I.D. plant uses the leaf cutting propagation
method?
What are the several propagation methods we covered in
the lecture?
o Once the presentation is done students will be instructed to go
into the greenhouse.
o Students will work with some of the pants that were on the I.D.
PowerPoint. The students will get a chance to take note of
structure of the plants and how to properly identify them for their
I.D. quiz later in the week.
o Give students the handouts for the asexual propagation methods
that are being covered today.
o Students will watch as the teacher demonstrates several asexual
propagation methods and then the students will participate in
practicing those methods as well.

At the end of the asexual propagation methods lab, students will recap
what they liked about the lab and something new they learned.

Reflect by having each student share something they learned in today.

outside of school? Create your own new plants from plants around your
house or in the yard?
