VPLEX SAN Assessment Summary

Aundrey Mattox, a Storage Consultant with Cognizant, was chosen to perform this engagement.
Upon arrival, the team set forth a list of areas that would be reviewed. They are:
1. Analysis of current As-Is SAN Infrastructure
a. Review current SAN infrastructures in both Garden City and Herndon Data
Centers.
b. Review client supplied data on host and storage environment for completeness
and accuracy (1 AIX, 1 UCS, and 1 HP Wintel running ESX).
c. Validation of the current environment to include the following:

EMC VPLEX Clusters

EMC VPLEX Engines

EMC VPLEX Directors

EMC VPLEX Metro

EMC VPLEX Witness

LUN Masking

Imported Storage volumes

VPLEX virtual volume management

Virtual volumes presented to the host

RecoverPoint Appliances are installed and configured

2. Overview of To-Be SAN Infrastructure


a. Validate all systems are at acceptable firmware levels for project completion.
b. Review architectural diagrams from Cognizant detailing the VPLEX specific
configuration components.
c. PSE&G, Cognizant, and EMC teams have collectively reviewed the infrastructure
of both locations (Herndon/Garden City).
3. Encapsulation/Migration Plan
a. Pre-Migration Steps Steps to be performed prior to execution of Migration
Plan. Steps include zoning and any required storage provisioning.
b. Encapsulation/Migration Steps Steps to ensure LUNs are encapsulated with
VPLEX in both locations.

c. Post Migration Plan- Failover testing and Customer Acceptance.


4. Testing and Acceptance Plan
a. VPLEX connectivity testing will consist of the following (1 AIX, 1 UCS, and 1 HP
Wintel running ESX) in both locations.
b. 8 hours effort is to be factored in for the integration ViPR SRM monitoring tool
through a Change Request later.
c. Ensure RecoverPoint is fully functional and able to replicate between Herndon
and Garden City sites.
