We will focus on poetry this week.

CCSS: L.1.5d Students will distinguish

shades of meaning among verbs differing
in manner (e.g., look, peek, glance, stare,
glare, scowl) and adjectives differing in
intensity (e.g., large, gigantic) by defining
or choosing them or by acting out the
meanings.
Phonics skills: review

Tuesday, 5/10 - Dia de las Madres

First Grade Moms invited 9:45-10:15
(remember to RSVP)

fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use

strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 =
8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading
to a ten (e.g., 13 4 = 13 3 1 = 10 1 = 9); using the
relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 8 = 4); and creating
equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7
by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).

Fluency means automatically. We call it mental math. This is

what we are working towards for the 66 facts that add up to 10 or
less. We use powerpoints, Math software, and flashcards to
practice this skill.
Strategies are used for facts that add up to 20. Strategies we
use include: tens frames, the 100 chart, number lines,
manipulatives (connecting cubes), fact families, counting on,
and doubles facts.

Important Information

Homework: READ, use reading log, and

practice Math skills. Do What number
comes next? Have student count to 120
quickly and correctly. Practice flashcards.

Attendance: Be here, be on time, supply a

written excuse if absent, and remember
were running end of the year assessments.

May book orders are due Mon., 5/16 to be

in before our last day of school.
