HAZARDS

1. Double bag biological waste.

3. Autoclave the waste for 15 min at
121 C (250 F)

CONTROLS
1a1. Always wear gloves and cover exposed skin with clothing
or lab coat
1a2. Biohazard waste bags must be red or clear and marked
with the biohazard symbol. DO NOT use orange bags for
biohazard waste.
2a1. Always wear gloves and cover exposed skin with clothing
or lab coat
3a1. See Autoclave JSA

4. Dispose of autoclaved waste.

4a. Bags can be hot or


have hot condensation
from autoclave

4c. Lifting heavy bags can


cause injury.

4a1. Let bags cool after removing from autoclave

4b1. Wear insulated gloves (hot mitts) over your regular gloves
4b2. Always wear gloves and cover exposed skin with clothing
or lab coat
4b3. Seal bags by tying an overhand knot at the top of the bag
or by twisting the top of the bag and folding it back against itself
and securing with tape.This is mandatory to prevent leakage of
contents.
