You live with your parents and your parents have rules. You want to be able to have some
freedom. What kinds of freedoms would you like? Write and create your own document
for yourself! What would you ask for? (Do some research, think about it) Create a fun and
inventive declaration of independence. Look at the samples hanging in the classroom.
Be sure that you cover all five parts of the original document in your declaration.
Include:
1. A preamble or Why am I writing this document? (20 points)
2. Philosophical Foundation-Why I have the right to ask for this. (20 points)
3. List of grievances or complaints-How my rights have been violated? (20 points)
4. An explanation of how you have tried to resolve the problem. How I have tried to
solve the problem up to this point. (20 points)
5. A resolution which answers the question: What do we do now Please keep this
positive and appropriate. (20 points) Here are some ways to make paper look old:
Drag a wet tea bag across the paper. The tea will stain the paper, giving it an aged
appearance.
Place wet coffee grounds on the paper; then shake them off. The coffee will turn the
paper brown and give it an aged appearance.
Cover the paper with lemon juice, and then carefully expose it near a flame. The longer
the exposure, the darker the paper will become (kids should use adult supervision).
Pour old cold coffee onto the paper and let it soak for just a few seconds-this should not
be allowed to soak.

These ideas are optional and will have no bearing on the final
grade. Each section is worth 20 points, be sure to complete all 5
parts neatly. Using the template on the back is optional, you may
complete this on the paper of your choice. This is a QUIZ GRADE!
