Mentor/Jury Member | Peer Court | Matheson Courthouse

Peer Court is an alternative approach to the traditional juvenile justice system. A youth charged with an
offense has the option of attending Peer Court where they are place in front of a jury peers. The youth is
then sentenced by the jury for their offense. Sentences include, community service, tracking sheets,
counseling (if needed), and other extra-curricular activities for the youth to complete before graduating
from the program. The youth is also assigned a mentor from the jury to check up on them and build a
relationship with them to be a good role model. I have been a part of this program since the beginning of
my sophomore year and have built many relationships with mentees and the officials in Peer Court.
