Assessment 1
My classroom design

Learning centers are used a lot for early childhood, teachers have a positive classroom
environment. In order to have a good learning environment, which makes students more active
we need to create students centered classroom. Everybody has a special learning style.
Learning centers offer young learners to the opportunity to engage in child-initiated learning and
explore various interests when rotating through various centers. (Partners, F. (2011). In this
essay, I am going to list the five learning centers of my own classroom design, which are literacy,
science, play role, whole class and art centers.

EDU1203 Assessment 1
In the top left-hand corner there is a role-play center, this center I really like, it contains small toy
house, kitchen dolls and costumes. It helps the kids to use their imagination and start acting
different roles together. Most role play areas will reflect a real life context. Role play is therefore
an effective way for children to make sense of the world around them. Dobson. (2004).
This well helps them to explore the real life context when they pretend to be a doctor, teacher,
policeman and parentsetc. In addition, role-play center is a good way to acquire language and
develop social skills, because they communicate with each other and use vocabulary words
through role-plays. Kids really enjoy their time and they become very active in this center.

In the top right-hand corner there is a literacy center, this center contains a big carpet, smart
board and small shelves filled with variety stories of fiction and nonfiction books, it helps them to
learn the words, the spellings and read. This center is so important for kindergarteners early
learning experiences. Students actively engaged in the learning process as they are thinking and
doing, They are practicing and developing letter/sound knowledge, listening skills, oral language
expression, rhyme, letter formation, cooperation, etc. (Hubbard, M. (n.d.). in my opinion this
center is good for auditory learners who learn through listening also for visual learners who learn
through seeing.

In the bottom left-hand corner of my classroom there is an art center, this center contains a table,
board and art materials. This center allows students to use their hands. This center stimulates
and develops kids imagination. The kids require using both hands together when they are
drawing, coloring and cutting. Also, they required using their fine motor skills, in order to write,
draw shapes and cut patterns. These skills are so important to them its similarly translate to other
areas of their lives, for instance dressing, eating, writing and typing things. (Weichman, L. (2012).

In the bottom right-hand corner of my classroom, there is a science center, this center contains
a table and some sands. It helps the kids to discover things around them; the table has a box
filled with science materials, such as magnifying, microscope, test tubes. This center helps the
tactile learners who learn through touching things and prefer activities and projects. This center
gives young children the time, space, and materials to exercise their curiosity. It also gives them
the freedom to engage in child-centered explorations, experimentations, and explanations.
(Wilson, R. (n.d.).

In middle of the room, there is a whole class center, this area contains a carpet, some
comfortable chairs, and around the carpet area there are four tables and chairs. This center is
very useful for the kids, because they like to learn in different ways. The kids naturally enjoy
working on floor and they likes to move their books and games on the floor, its important to have
a simple area for the kids and not overfill this space. (Whitebread, D, (1996).

In conclusion, learning centers in the classroom helps the kids to learn in many ways. They can
be creative and so active in the class and with the good design students develop there learning.
Furthermore, I can see some similarities and differences between literacy and the whole class
centers. Firstly, both of them contain carpets, which helps the kids to feel comfortable there.
Secondly, both of them encourage kids to do activities and work productively. Finally, Both
centers develop kid reading and writing skills.

On the other hand, literacy and whole class centers used for different learning styles. Literacy
center contains a smart board, kids are being able to have a special learning style through
watching and listening to the videos, so I think this center helps both auditory and visual learners.
they really have fun and be so active there. Contrariwise the whole class center, I think this
center helps kinesthetic learners who learn through physical sensation, because that allows them
to work. Kids tend to stay on the whole class center and do a lot of activities there to learn.
Finally, learning style motivate the kids to learn better.
