Running head: HPL 730/740 Symposium Project

After learning about High Performance Learning and learnercentrality at the start of this program, I felt prepared to look more
closely at two important aspects of education, assessment and
learning theory, through an HPL lens. While I felt I had a basic
understanding on these topics, it is clear that it was imperative for me
to take another look at them from a different, deeper perspective.
Through developing this HPL 730/740 Symposium Project, I was able to
reflect on how much I have learned and make the necessary
connections that will enable me to put that learning into action.
As a student striving to be a Scholar-Practitioner of High
Performance Learning and learner-centrality, it was interesting to
imagine myself as an educational leader through this project. This
project required me to exercise each of the educational facets of
leadership of HPL that Carlow created and see how they fit together.
This project prompted me to think of how I can be a vehicle of change
in my future position of leadership within the education field.
Throughout this semester, I learned about various types of
assessments and learning theories that continued to shape my desire
to be a part of this educational shift towards learner-centrality that is
happening. Understanding the importance of the importance of the
relation between learning theory, assessments, accountability, and the
learners is important because of the rapid changes of the world that
influence education. While completing this assignment, I was able to

experience the feeling of being an agent of change and reflection first

hand. It is important that educators are always looking for the most
efficient way to serve their students and this assignment was a way for
me to do that.
The HPL 730/740 Symposium Project also helped me to solidify
my understanding that improving education will be an ongoing
process. There will always be updated technology, theories,
assessments, methods and philosophies. As a learner striving to be a
Scholar-Practitioner and an Agent of Change in the educational system,
I must always be researching, learning and growing. Creating my HPL
730/740 Symposium Project was a way to both reflect on my learning,
and see the potential influence that my learning can have in my future
position of an educational leader.
