1. TherearemanyopinionsonwhatsparkedtheAmericanRevolution.

Inmyopinion,theBattleof
LexingtonandConcordisthemaininitiatoroftheRevolution.Britishtaxacts,USdocuments,
andUSmeetingsplayedapartleadinguptothebattle,buttheBattleofLexingtonandConcord
wasthemilitaryengagementofthewar.Whiletheotheractionscontributedtoangerthecolonists
hadfortheking,theydidntactontheirangeruntilthebattlewhichiswhatsparkedtherestof
theviolentwar.ThebattleofLexingtonandConcordwasthemilitaryengagementofthe
AmericanRevolutionthattookplaceinMassachusettsonApril19,1775.
2. TheDeclarationofIndependencehelpedcolonistsgainbackhumanrightsthathadbeentaken
fromthembytheking.Oneofthesevalueswasliberty.Thedefinitionoflibertyincludesthatitis
thestateofbeingfree,whichisexactlywhatthedeclarationdidforcolonists.Thedocumentis
whatgainedthecolonistsseparationfromtheBritishgovernment,andwhathelpedthestartofa
newgovernmentinthecolonies.
3. OnechallengethenewUnitedStatesgovernmentfacedwashowthegovernmentshouldberun.
Somecolonistswantedapersontokeepatightgriponthecitizenswhileothersjustwanted
someonewhocouldenforcetheconstitutionalrights.Inresponsetothis,theideaofasenaterose.
Thesenateiscomposedoftwosenatorsfromeachstate.Thesenatorsaretheonlypeoplecan
approvetreatiesandorrejecttreatiesandpresidentialnominationsforgovernmentoffices.The
UnitedStatesrespondedeffectivelytothechallengeofnewgovernmentbecausewhentherewas
conflictoverhowthegovernmentshouldberun,theyfoundamiddlegroundthatbenefitedboth
sidesoftheargument.

AsFoundingFathersoftheUnitedStates,federalistAlexanderHamiltonandantifederalist
ThomasJeffersonbothhadverydifferentviewsonnewgovernment.Theybothhadtheiropinionson

howthenewcountryshouldbegoverned.Morespecifically,theyhadopposingviewsonfederalandstate
powerandeconomicstructure.
Whendecidinghowtoruntheeconomy,Hamiltonwantedanationalbank,similartothe
systemEnglandhad.TheBankofEnglandhadbeendoingwellwithincome,andhewantedtheUnited
Statestodojustaswell.Hestoodforconsolidatingstatedebtsunderfederalgovernment,generating
protectivetariffstoavoidforeigncompetitionandgovernmentsubsidiestoencourageAmerican
manufacturersaswell.Lastly,Hamiltonwantedpromotionofmanufacturesandcommercetoalsohelp
thestartiftheeconomy.However,ThomasJeffersonopposedthisideabecausehefearedanationalbank
representedtoomuchEnglishinfluenceandhestatedthattheConstitutiondidntgiveCongressthepower
toestablishanationalbank.Jeffersonwantedamoretraditionaleconomythatfocusedmoreon
agriculturethanmanufacturing.HealsowantedtoeliminateinternaltaxeswhileHamiltonwantedto
maintainthem.ThelastmaindifferencebetweenHamiltonandJeffersonsviewswastheiropinionson
debt.Hamiltonwantedtousethenationaldebttoestablishcredit,butJeffersonwantedtopayitoff.
HamiltonandJeffersonalsohadopposingviewsoneconomicstructure.AlexanderHamilton
favoredastrongfederalgovernmentwithaweakerstategovernment.Havingafederalgovernmentmeant
thattherewasastrongnationalgovernmentwithsmallerlocalgovernments.Iftheyweretohaveafederal
governmentsystem,thestateswouldhavelessinput.Hamiltonthoughtthegovernmentshouldbe
modeledofftheBritishsystem.HealsosupportedlooseinterpretationoftheConstitution.Jeffersonon
theotherhand,hadamoredemocraticviewandfavoredaweakcentralgovernmentwithstrongstate
governments.HesupportedstrictinterpretationontheConstitution,andwantedtofollowitclosely.
AlexanderHamiltonandThomasJeffersonhadmanyopposingviewswhendecidinghowtorun
theeconomyandgovernmenttheUnitedStates.Theyboththoughtdifferentlyonwhoshouldrulethe
votes,whichform(s)ofgovernmentshouldbeused,ifthereshouldbeemphasisonagricultureor
manufacturing,andhowstrictlyorlooselytheyshouldfollowtheConstitution.BothHamiltonand

JeffersonsopinionshelpedshapetheUnitedStatesintowhatitistoday,andthroughcompromiseanew
countrywasborn.
