The pre and post assessments are divided up into 8 identical multiple

choice questions worth one point each and a short answer/essay portion
worth 30 points. The short answer on the pre-test just asks students to list
three landmark cases for African American civil rights for 10 points each, and
the post-test asks students to describe three cases for five points each and
also discuss the precedent set by each and how they connect together for
another five points each. The total score is 38 points.

Post-Test Score

As shown by the data, every student except for student 5 showed

positive growth. Overall, the class average grew from about 13.5 (~36%) to
an average of 32 (~84%) by the end of the unit. The post-test median was a
34, and the mode was also a 34. There were five students who scored 100%
on the post-test (students 13, 17, 18, 21, and 22). There could be a number
of reasons for student 5s negative growth on the post-test. To start with,
they missed a total of three days out of the seven day unit which proved
very difficult for them to make up the missing work. This student is also on
an IEP, and the majority of their lost points came from the essay question.
This means the student most likely had trouble making the jump from the
level 1 short answer question to the level 3-4 essay question. Overall, the
exam could be modified for this student to better represent their growth.

Post-Test Score

I chose to break the class data into sub-groups based on students with
IEPs and 504s. The general ed students showed growth from an average of
11 points (29%) on the pre-test to an average of 32 on the post test (84%).
Whereas the students with IEPs/504s started with a higher average of 19
points (50%) to the same average of 32 points on the post-test. Except for
student 5, each student in the class ended up showing fairly significant
growth. It was also reaffirming to see that both groups of students ended up
showing the same average score on the post-test. This is most likely due to
the fact that we worked very closely with IS throughout the unit and had a
para in the classroom to work with this population of students. Ultimately,

this data shows that learning occurred for the most part across the whole
classregardless of learning style or ability.
