Dear Mr.Farrieta
My name is Alex Escamilla, for my assignment I visited my fathers work. He
is a Border Patrol Agent. Hes program is stationed inside the base so its well
secured. While being there I saw that people had different ranks, for intense my
father is a Supervisor. He works with search and rescue and EMT in the border
patrol, he is also a concealed hand trainer. He gives classes often and is asked to
give class in different countries and is send sometimes to go out and help when its
needed.
They all talked the same nothing fancy if youre not a gun person you wont
know what kind of weapons they are talking about because that was me but they
did have specific stuff to take care, while observing my father was taking files and
organizing the schedules for training and etc. To join one must go through and
application process and take a written test and physical test. Trainees must
graduate from the fielding training officer program, an on the job training program.
There are different branches in the border Patrol and a number of other specialized
programs and details. Like my fathers friend is in the K9 unit he handles with dogs.
What stood out to me the most is that everyone was in shape.
Being an agent you work with many fire arm and different kind of vehicles,
one must learn how to drive and learn how use multiple weapons. Before my father
moved up in position he use to Patrol in the airboats along the Rio Grande. He told
us stories in how kids and people from Mexico would throw them rocks and it was
very dangerous. My dad has a different community map compared to me working to
be a nurse but it was interesting knowing what he does in a daily basis.
Sincerely Alex Escamilla
