Extracurricular Activities

Rowing- I have been rowing for three years in which two have
been at the Baltimore Rowing Club in Baltimore, MD. I currently
row in an 8, 4 and a 2-man boat with the high school team within
the club. During the spring season of 2015 the my team won a
silver medal at the mid-Atlantic regatta hosted in Princeton, NJ.
My first exposure to Rowing was when my family was living in
New Zealand while my Dad was posted in Wellington, New
Zealand with the Department of Homeland Security. During this
time and I had the opportunity to learn to row and compete with
the Scotts College row team. The team participated in various
local and countrywide events throughout New Zealand. While I
was on an official tour of the US Merchant Marine Academy I had
the opportunity to meet with the rowing team head coach and
other current Merchant Marine crew team members and would
like to pursue rowing if I had the opportunity to attend US

Merchant Marine Academy.

Swim Team- I have been swimming for Western Howard MD
Wahoos for eleven years. During my eleven years I won

numerous awards and I have competed in Divisional, County and

State Championships.
Underwater Hockey- An unknown sport to most Americans but
a growing sport in most other countries especially in New
Zealand. I was selected to be on the junior team at Scots
College located in Wellington during my freshman and
sophomore years. During my time on the team we won Regionals
and I was awarded the most valuable player award (MVP) and
participated in a national tournament between other schools in

New Zealand and Australia.

Football- played with the Western Howard County Warhawks

football team as a tight end.

Basketball -Participated on a Howard county recreational

basketball team during my freshman year of high school.

Alpine Skiing- I have been skiing for 12 years and enrolled in

the Whitetail Ski race team during winter 2014-2015.

Sailing -While in New Zealand I learned how to sail with Scots
College. Wellington is also known as Windy Wellington,
presented sailing challenges that I overcame during my two-year
stay.

Leadership/Volunteer activities
Camp WATERS- Started by Judd Anderson, Camp WATERS was
hosted by Baltimore Rowing Club and I was a counselor for the
inner city Baltimore youth and taught campers how to row
between the ages of 10-16. During this time I was on boat

launches and personally taught the kids to row on my own. I

would like to continue this leadership role with camp waters next

summer as a head counselor position prior to starting College.

Vacation Bible School - hosted by St. Michaels Church in
Poplar Springs MD. Vacation Bible School or VBS teaches young
children between the ages of 4-10 about God and how religion
can be a fun and enjoyable experience. The children visited
various stations throughout the week by learning different ways
on how God teaches. My Job was to lead a class of 10-12 children
on different verses of the Bible . Another aspect of VBS was to
led children on act out skits to help them learn about the Bible
stories.
I am currently a member of St Michaels Church and have
volunteered at the Beacon House, a homeless shelter in Fredrick
to help prepare and serve lunches to the homeless or needy

during the holidays.

I was awarded the Student of the month at Glenelg High School

in March 2015.
During the summer of 2014 and 2015 I employed with DRD pool
as a lifeguard and currently am certified in CPR and First Aid and
worked full time during both summers.
