PAST CONTINUOUS TENSES

SITUATION:
1) He was washing his car at 3 p.m.
2) While I was doing my homework, my mother was sewing.

1. The past continuous tense is often used to express a past on-going


action. [sentence 1]
2. It ais also used to show two activities that were going on at the same time.
[sentence 2]
3. We use it to express an action that happened while something else was
going on:
The telephone rang when I was cooking.
Sheila and Siti were running when Sheila fell
down.
4. Finally, it expresses a past habitual action:
We were always playing
hopscotch.
That man was always scolding
