Rules for creating the passive voice:


Follow these steps:
1. Remove the subject.
2. Start with the object.
3. Add verb “to be” in the tense of the verb of the active sentence.
4. Put the original verb into the past participle.

Active to passive exercise – 8a


A. Convert the active into passive:

1. My brother walks the dog.


The dog is walked by my brother.
2. He opened the window.
The window was opened by him.
3. Someone has stolen my treasure.
My treasure has been stolen.
4. They will sell the house.
The house will be sold.
5. Sam is washing the car.
The car is being washed by Sam.
6. The girls had eaten the cakes.
The Cakes have been eaten by the girls.
7. They are going to plant trees.
Trees are going to be planted by them.
8. David was buying a book.
A book was being bought by David.

B. Convert the active into passive:


1. Susan threw away the litter.
The litter was thrown away by Susan
2. Someone has opened the door.
The door has been opened.
3. My dad was cutting the grass.
The grass was being cut by my Dad.
4. The tourists didn't see the lions.
The lions weren’t been seen.
5. The birds are eating my food.
My food is being eaten by the birds.
6. She is going to buy the red dress.
The red dress is going to be bought by her.
7. Gold miners found diamonds in Brazil.
Diamonds in Brazil were found by gold miners.
8. The postman delivers letters.
Letters are being delivered by the postman.
9. Our band will sing that song.
That song will be sang by our band.
10. Many people had visited the cave.
The cave has been visited by many people.
