Addendum A

Minors
1. Describe the order of the recruitment process (parental and
child) and how the study will be presented to minors:
A recruitment session would be conducted by an experimenter, who would invite the
whole section to participate. The experimenter would talk about the project and what
would be required for students participating in it. Students that opt out of the study
will be given a different task during each testing session. The experimenter will also
give an explanation of an alternative task for students not participating in the study.
2. Describe the assent process including how you will obtain active
assent from minors (this process should be appropriate to the
age/maturity of the child) and permission from parents. If requesting a
waiver of active assent or permission, describe the specific reasons for
this request:
The informed consent will be given to students during the recruitment session.
Students would be given time to read the document and ask questions. Students
who agree to participate in the study would take the document home, so their
parents can read and sign it. Those who choose not to participate would just return
the document during the recruitment session, no questions asked.
