Standard Operating Procedures for Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC)

A. Definition
Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) is care of newborn infants secured skin to skin to the
mother.
B. Benefits

Stabilize the heart rate , breathing patterns and oxygen saturation


Providing warmth in infants
Increased duration of sleep
Accelerate weight gain and brain development
Improving the emotional relationship of mother and baby

The baby should be placed between the mothers breasts in an upright position.

The head should be turned to one side and in a slightly upturned position. This
position helps in breathing of and allows eye-to-eye contact between the mother
and her baby.

The legs and arms should be folded.

Babys abdomen should be at the level of the mothers upper abdomen.

Support the baby bottom with a sling/binder.

The top of the binder should be at the babys ear


If the bond are secure,you must pair the baby hat
The last one, close the body parents with T-shirt
You must stop the procedure,if the condition babys not good
If the procedure is done,you must handwashing and evaluation this procedure
