Introduction: ladder diagrams are special method of representing control circuit using
relays and switches, which is first represented graphically and then either it is made in hard
wired format after verification of proper operation; or executed using PLC.
For drawing a ladder diagram first one has to prepare a sequence of control actions
in which the control logic is supposed to work. Then one has to decide the components
required for preparing the circuit. Then one has to decide the connection of the input and
output devices in proper order to make the control logic work. Then represent the
connections in the ladder format to finally get the ladder diagram.
The prepared ladder diagrams working can be verified by preparing the diagram in
Multisim and simulating its working.
Task to perform:
1. Prepare a ladder diagram for an elevator system. It employs a platform to move an object
up and down. When UP push-button is pressed the platform should move up and stop
automatically. When DOWN push-button is pressed, the platform should move down and
stop automatically. For stopping the platform automatically, limit switches should be used.
The system should have a start and stop switches.
List down first the input and output devices and then draw the ladder diagram, and prepare it
using Multisim and test the same.

2. Prepare a ladder diagram for a conveyor belt control system. The system is used to move
a component to a work station. The presence of the component at work station is detected by
means of a limit switch. There it stops 50 seconds for an operation to be carried out before
moving on and off the conveyor. The motor for the belt is started by a normally open START
switch and stopped by a normally closed STOP switch.
List down the input and output devices and then draw the ladder diagram, and prepare it
using Multisim and test the same.
