Performance Critique
I had the chance to see the Millbrook High School Choir perform. They had four
different choirs that performed, the Vocal Music 1 choir, the Womens Ensemble, the Mens
Ensemble, and the Madrigals. The Vocal Music 1 choir were very clearly beginners, but
overall that had a very pleasant sound. They had nice, clear consonants, and the altos are the
stand-out section of the group. The sopranos had a really wide sound, and seemed too airy
and unfocused, but had good diction. Overall, they had a good sound for singers just starting
out. The Womens choir, however, perfectly show how experienced they are. The altos are
strong, but well-balanced, and the sopranos were light, but held their own and stuck out
without being too loud. They had a really clean sound, and their songs were gorgeous. The
Mens choir was just phenomenal. The tenors were strong and focused, but they didnt sound
too nasally which is something I look for. They had a really nice tone, and you could clearly
understand the words, and could notice when the dynamics changed. The Mens choir were
honestly my favorite part of the whole performance. The Madrigals, the combined choir,
were really, really good. The men and women blended so nicely, but you could clearly tell
which part was which. They had a really nice tone, and the soloists were really talented as
well. The entire performance combined to make a very enjoyable night.
